The Start

After 10 years as an educator a simple video that I made for fun changed my life. Growing up I dreamed that I would be a writer and performer on Saturday Night Live. However, when I went to college I began to feel like a creative lifestyle wasn't enough for me. I felt like I should be doing more to help others so I switched my focus to a helping profession and became a teacher. Teaching both children and young adults to be successful inside and outside of the classroom were some of the most rewarding moments of my life.

The Switch

One day a colleague at work found out that I had a background in film and asked me to make a quick video for an upcoming staff meeting. That video quickly went viral around the office and shortly after I was offered a position making videos and visual content. Now at that time I had just finished my masters degree and was beginning to start a family. I was faced with the decision of taking the safe path in education or taking a risk and becoming a full-time creative.

The Present

I guess you can tell from this website which path I ultimately chose but making a transition from a defined and established career to something abstract and subjective has been challenging to say the least. But over the last several years I have learned a very valuable lesson - Being a creative is about helping people. Creatives have the ability help people find and tell their story to those that need to hear and see it the most. So I guess I knew as a kid that being a creative was the right fit for me all along.
